Good lookin' south

Issue #4 - about bloody time

So yeah, it's taken quite a while (#3 was released at the Choking Victim gig in 2012 which seems like a lifetime ago now), but issue #4 of Good Lookin' South is finally here! You can find more details and buy it online from the GLS Distro. Alternatively, you can get it from The Cowley Club (Brighton), Punker Bunker (Brighton), Riot Ska (Bristol), Prejudice Me (Manchester) and other distros being added all the time. If you want a copy for trade, or multiple copies for your distro or family gifts throughout the year give...

State of the Distro

Some of you might have noticed that a lot of the stock on this distro is sold out and we're running low on a lot of everything else - I figured I should probably address what's going on with it and why I've not been getting any more stuff in for a couple of months now. First up, there's the money - there's no profit being taken on any of the zines or books, the price you see on the site is the price I paid to get the zines and books in.  That means there's no money to reinvest in...

Issue 2: Record Reviews

Social Schism - A Conflicting Mass Of Media Misinformation Fuck yeah!  Straight up punk mixing up 80s US hardcore with some ferocious anarchist and anti-fascist lyrics across eight tracks in just over a quarter of an hour.  Thundering along at full pelt with a few samples and chunks from live performances until about half way through when suddenly, surprise dub reminiscent of Inner Terrestrials in the form of They Shall Not Pass (no prizes for guessing what that’s about), and then kicking back in with more of the same angry, no nonsense hardcore punk fucking rock. (Self Released) Beng Beng Cocktail, Atrocity...

Brighton gigs: September 2011 to January 2012

September then, as far as I remember it was warmer than the summer, and filled with amazing gigs in and out of Brighton.  Starting things off was an Brighton Anti-Fascists benefit gig at The Cowley Club headlined by China Shop Bull who were quite something.  Mashing up a bit of drum’n’bass with punk isn’t a hugely original idea, but it is one that few have done well.  These guys certainly know how to party anyway, coming up somewhere between Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Mouthwash - they even played a drum’n’bass cover of The Dead Kennedys, purists will complain, but I...

Fancy a free zine?

The King Blues, pretending to give a shit since 2001 I'm clearly in a generous mood, or perhaps I'm just smug that the pseudo-anarchist, major label, misogynist, arseholes of The King Blues have finally split up after making the UK punk scene suffer their naïve, ill thought out politics, so I've decided to give away a few free copies of Good Lookin' South. As if their music and attitude wasn't enough to make you hate The King Blues, let's not forget how Itch treated former band members and his ex partner and their child.  What a dick. Website (it's like a zine, but on computers)

It's taken a while, but finally Good Lookin' South has slapped a Section 6 on a web server and got a home on the internet, as well as an outlet for all my capitalist fantasties full of exciting zines and books.  I'll gradually be uploading all the content from the zine onto the site as and when I get round to it, but in the meantime, there's still a few copies of Issue #1 in stock, and a whole pile of issue #2 available on the distro, not to mention a bunch of other zines and books for you to...
